Veteran Readiness & Employment

Up to 48 months of training, full tuition + fees + a monthly subsistence allowance + book stipend, plus career counseling and workplace accommodations. Vets eligible for both VR&E and the GI Bill should usually use VR&E first — you can elect the GI Bill housing rate for the monthly money, and VR&E covers things GI Bill won’t. Whether there is a deadline depends on your discharge date: none if you were discharged on or after January 1, 2013, and otherwise 12 years from whichever came later — your separation notice or your first VA rating. A counselor can extend that for a serious employment handicap.
